Abu Dhabi, 21 ottobre 2016 – Il pilota britannico Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data) ha vinto Fase 2 – La Nazione Torri Stage – della Abu Dhabi Tour, Abu Dhabi – Abu Dhabi (Al Marina – 115 km). La gara ufficiale l’Ambasciatore ha anche preso l’iniziativa di complessiva classifica generale.

Parlando secondi dopo l’arrivo di tappa, il vincitore Mark Cavendish ha dichiarato: “Sono contento che abbiamo voluto vincere oggi mi sentivo bene che fosse uno sprint molto caotica, in cui ho perso il mio vantaggio nella seconda all’ultima curva…. ho pensato ‘questo è tutto’, ma siamo tornati su. ho seguito gigante. non volevo andare giù, ho dovuto frenare a un certo punto. ero felice di essere dietro Sky nell’ultima curva e passarli. e ‘ è stato incredibile di passare attraverso tutti i siti iconici di Abu Dhabi. e ‘stato impressionante vedere gli edifici, la Moschea Grande, e le torri, e per finire in al Marina “.

FASE DI DOMANI: Fase 3 – STRATA STAGE / AL AIN – Jebel Hafeet (150km)
La terza fase comprende sia un ambiente urbano e le montagne. La prima parte, nell’ambito della città Al Ain, è tutto su larghe strade con rotatorie e dossi ed è seguita da una seconda parte nel deserto lungo strade larghe e prevalentemente diritta. A 15 km da percorrere, la strada inizia a salire leggermente verso la salita finale, si conclude con un arrivo in salita a quota 1025m, a seguito di una salita con 11 km piste con pendenza 11%.

Ultimo km
La salita finale è nelle curve ad ampio raggio su una carreggiata a tre corsie. Il gradiente è per lo più intorno 8-9% con un picco del 11% a 3km di andare. Ci sono brevi discese negli ultimi chilometri prima della rampa finale con un rettilineo su asfalto.

MARK CAVENDISH WINS STAGE 2, NATION TOWERS STAGE, OF THE ABU DHABI TOUR AND TAKES THE RED JERSEY

Abu Dhabi, 21 October 2016 – The British rider Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data) won Stage 2 – the Nation Towers Stage – of the Abu Dhabi Tour, Abu Dhabi – Abu Dhabi (Al Marina – 115km). The race’s Official Ambassador also took the lead in the overall General Classification.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the winner Mark Cavendish said: “I’m happy with that. We wanted to win today. I felt good. It was a very chaotic sprint in which I lost my lead out in the second last corner. I thought ‘that’s it’, but we got back on. I followed Giant. I didn’t want to go down, I had to brake at some stage. I was happy to be behind Sky in the last corner and pass them. It was incredible to pass through all the iconic sites of Abu Dhabi. It was impressive to see the buildings, the Grande Mosque, and the towers, and to finish in Al Marina”.

TOMORROW’S STAGE: Stage 3 – STRATA STAGE / AL AIN – JEBEL HAFEET (150KM)
The third stage comprises both urban surroundings and mountains. The first part, inside Al Ain city, is all on wide roads with roundabouts and speed humps and is followed by a second part in the desert along wide and predominantly straight roads. At 15km to go, the route starts to rise slightly towards the final ascent, culminating in an uphill finish at an altitude of 1025m, following an 11km climb featuring slopes with an 11% gradient.

Last km
The final climb is on wide-ranging bends on a three-lane roadway. The gradient is mostly around 8-9% with a peak of 11% at 3km to go. There are short descents in the last kilometres before the final ramp with a straight finish on asphalt.
