Dalla fase 2, la Nazione Torri stage, della terza edizione del Abu Dhabi Tour (23 – 26 febbraio 2017), la corsa WorldTour unico in Medio Oriente organizzata dalla Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in collaborazione con RCS Sport ed Eventi. La tappa si snoda in gran parte nella città di Abu Dhabi, e prende in tutti i punti di riferimento significativi della capitale degli Emirati Arabi Uniti. Dopo 153 km di corsa, la fase può terminare con uno sprint di gruppo.
Durante la fase, 36 punti maglia verde (di un totale di gara di 152), 16 nero Jersey punti (di un totale di gara di 72), e 16 secondi in bonus di tempo sono in palio.

 ITINERARIO
La seconda fase viene eseguito principalmente nella città di Abu Dhabi. Dopo l’inizio della gara passa attraverso Reem Island, poi lungo la Corniche di Abu Dhabi per la prima volta prima di girare a sud su ampi viali rettilinei. Qui il percorso passa vicino alla Moschea Sheikh Zayed e raggiunge Shakhbout città – sede del primo intermedio Sprint, con alcune rotonde sul percorso – prima di guidare attraverso Al Shahama e Al Bahya – per il secondo intermedio Sprint – per poi tornare a Yas Island. La parte finale della tappa si corre sulla Sheikh Zayed bin autostrada verso la Corniche di Abu Dhabi e la linea del traguardo. L’intero percorso è su ampi viali con “occhi di gatto” riflettori stradali dividendo costantemente le corsie.

Abu Dhabi, 24 February 2017 – مرحباً (Marhaban!) from Stage 2, the Nation Towers Stage, of the third edition of the Abu Dhabi Tour (23 – 26 February 2017), the unique WorldTour race in the Middle East organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with RCS Sports and Events. The stage runs mostly in the city of Abu Dhabi, and takes in all the significant landmarks of the UAE capital. After 153km of racing, the stage may end with a bunch sprint.
During the stage, 36 Green Jersey Points (of a race total of 152), 16 Black Jersey Points (of a race total of 72), and 16 seconds in time bonuses are up for grabs.
The ceremonial roll out started on schedule at 13:25. After leaving the 2,500m neutralised zone, the peloton of 156 riders passed km 0 at 13.31. Did not start: dossard numbers 127 Daniel Teklehaimanot (Team Dimension Data) and 146 Juan Jose Lobato (Team Lotto NL – Jumbo).

ROUTE
The second stage runs mostly in the city of Abu Dhabi. After the start the race goes through Reem Island, then along the Abu Dhabi Corniche for the first time before turning south on wide, straight boulevards. Here the route passes close to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and reaches Shakhbout City – site of the first Intermediate Sprint, with several roundabouts on the course – before riding through Al Shahama and Al Bahya – for the second Intermediate Sprint – then returning to Yas Island. The final part of the stage is raced on the Sheikh bin Zayed Highway towards the Abu Dhabi Corniche and the finish line. The entire route is on wide boulevards with “cat’s eyes” road reflectors constantly dividing the lanes.
